Safer bank transfers

30 June 2008

Bank transfers with online banking facilities can be extremely secure, it just takes a minimal effort to ensure you have taken a few steps towards better security. Bank transfers themselves are very unlikely to hold any danger. It is more a case of the process surrounding them that can occasionally hold security threats.

If you are unsure of the security of the system you are using to access online banking facilities, then it is safer to avoid bank transfers if you can. A good firewall and anti-virus software that works, along with frequent scans can help to keep the system you use safe for online secure bank transfers.

You will also need to become familiar with the site you enter your details into so that you may spot any phishing attempts. Phishing is when a fake site poses as a legitimate one in the hopes that you will enter your details and submit them to a third party. This won't endanger your bank transfers in progress, per se, but it could allow unauthorised parties to gain access to your account so they can make their own bank transfers.

By simply being wary of the sites you enter information into and avoiding threats to your system with a firewall and virus scans, you can easily maximise the security of your online bank transfers.
