Secure bank transfers
8 April 2008
Bank transfers over the Internet are more secure than you might think. If you look at how prevalent the use of online banking is, you generally don't hear about online bank transfers being defrauded as you would expect of other means.
Thanks to the encryption of information sent online, you need not worry about the safety of bank transfers in progress, but rather of the information you used to access the service. The interface the bank uses to process your dealings is probably far more secure than your computer. Simple steps can be taken to ensure the personal security of your system, however.
First you will need to ensure you have adequate malicious software protection installed. This includes protection against viruses, Trojan horses, spyware and adware as well as a firewall. Certain malware can record and send the keystrokes you make, so frequent scans are a must. To further secure your bank transfers you should also refrain from using a master password for multiple uses, as this increases the ways in which your identity can be compromised.
